School to Work Transition Program

Assessment Services

Vocational assessment is a necessary component of the educational process especially for those students whose disability (s) may pose a handicap to employment.  Early assessment during post-secondary education can provide the foundation for a successful transition from school to work.  Some students may need time within a supportive work setting upon graduation, that only sheltered employment can provide, as a training before community employment.  Collaboration between the schools and the vocational evaluator is essential to determine the needs and create successful plans for students

What can we offer your students?

  • Vocational Evaluation
  • Vocational Training
  • Work Experience
  • Individual Counseling
  • Job Placement
  • Long Term Employment

What is a Vocational Assessment?

A vocational assessment is a comprehensive and individualized evaluation. It is geared to quickly assess the vocational strengths, needs and preferences of an individual. The vocational assessment culminates with a recommendation for either immediate community employment, outside vocational training, skills training for future employment or sheltered employment with a long term goal of community employment.

Assessment Includes:

  • Physical & Psychological capacities & limitations
  • Vocational interests
  • Skills
  • Work tolerance
  • Work habits
  • Work behaviors

The Tools used will be taken from a selection of standardized tests and individualized to each student. All evaluations include situational assessments, in areas such as workshop, cafeteria, warehouse, Market Central, and/or clerical of the Occupational Center of Union County and in the community when appropriate.
